South Bend, IN has some of the best weather in my opinion, however i love that my friend and I get four distinct seasons, and there is a opportunity of a white Christmas, seeing changing leaves, blooming flowers, and having a hot summer. I prefer the fact that for three months out of the year, the record high won’t go past 85 degrees. The coldest my friend and I can get is the eveningtime hot and cold temperatures being in the 20s, then yes, that is periods of hot and cold, however for the most part the weather is quite moderate… Due to this, I rely on a heat pump system for most of the year. I technically own what is called a hybrid furnace. This combines a ductless heat pump and a gas furnace, then for most of the year the heat pump is the one laboring to achieve whole house temperature control, how the heat pump works is by taking existing heat energy and either pushing or pulling it into the house. It is cleaner, quieter, and better for the environment, then on the legitimately chilly evenings while in the winter, the fuel source swings from electric to gas automatically. I don’t have to push a button. The gas furnace fires up and I feel perfectly warm… So for a vast majority of the year I am saving quite a bit of energy. I don’t have to sacrifice comfort. In South Bend you can’t really get by with just a heat pump. Having a supplemental heating source is really a attractive addition. I love that I don’t have to freeze late at evening.
