I performed some Heating, Ventilation, and A/C service work for a customer in Orland Park, but we do not normally service Orland Park, because it is more than 40 minutes away from Chicago.
We went to that address that day, because it was a slow day and the two of us had service professionals kneeling by… I was 1 of the service professionals assigned to help the customer.
The lady was not familiar with our business, and tried a lot of unusual scams on me to save money. The first thing she did was tell me that she had a coupon for $50 off the price of the repair. I told the lady that our heating and a/c supplier did not have any coupons for a $50 off savings. Then she said the coupon must have been for a unusual supplier and urged me to honor the coupon so I could say I had good customer service. I told the customer that she could contact the owner of the supplier if she wanted some style of special discount. The next thing the lady tried to do was write a awful check. We never accept checks from clients unless they have been verified. In order to verify the check, the customer has to call a special telephone number that can see how much money is in a person’s account. The customer refused to call the number, so I told the Orland park resident that she was going to need to pay for the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C service services with currency or a ATM card. I thought she was going to stiff me, but she got out her wallet.
