Winter in the northern midwest is getting worse all of the time.
Last year there were lows dipping below negative twenty degrees fahrenheit, and this past year saw it get down to negative thirty five degrees in my hometown.
Although I was raised in this area, no amount of time or experience can prepare someone for negative thirty five degrees when it’s their first time. I barely functioned in this kind of weather and was eager to get out as soon as possible. Living in Georgia for a few years was nice, but it was a trip to the amusement parks in Florida that pushed me to finally pick up my life and permanently move to the sunshine state. Although I wanted to live in Orlando at the time, my only friends in the state were living on Merritt Island, right next to Cocoa. There were apartments in Cocoa available for rent that were within my budget and price range. It’s nice being able to survive every winter in Cocoa with just a radiant space heater. There’s a great Walmart here in Cocoa that has space heaters on sale every year during the spring season. I grabbed two one year and haven’t needed any other form of heating while living in Cocoa, Florida. I live fairly close to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Station. Temperatures cannot be too extreme for rocket launches, as that was a huge factor contributing to the disaster that was the Challenger launch. I’d rather stay home and sit in front of a space heater while I do my remote work.
