I thought the kids would be fine alone

My wife and I decided to visit some friends that live in Denver.

We planned to be gone all day, and we were going to call my mom to come sit with the kids. When my wife and I mentioned leaving to spend the day in Denver, the kids wanted to stay home alone. My wife and I wondered if the three kids would be fine without adult supervision. After all, they are 15, 13, and 8. My wife and I often go to the grocery store or the bank and we leave the kids alone for a couple of hours. I didn’t know if the kids would make it all day, but my wife and I decided to give it a try. We left around 8 a.m. and Denver was an hour drive from our house. We called the kids when we arrived in town and we called them again at lunch time. The first phone call was much different than the second one. During the first phone call, all of the kids sounded calm and still a bit sleepy. When I talked to my fifteen-year-old son at lunch time, he sounded like he was filled with energy and he wouldn’t stop talking. My thirteen-year-old daughter got on the phone and she was not making any sense. She wouldn’t stop laughing and she sounded strange. I told my wife that the kids sounded like they were smoking marijuana. She laughed, but I was absolutely serious. I suggested we go home early to see if they were using recreational marijuana. None of them were old enough to legally buy the product, but they’re strange behavior had me worried.
