South Bend, IN has some of the best weather in my opinion.
I love that we get four distinct seasons.
There is a chance of a white Christmas, seeing changing leaves, blooming flowers, and having a hot summer. I enjoy the fact that for three months out of the year, the record high won’t go past 85 degrees. The coldest we can get is the nighttime temperatures being in the 20s. Yes, that is periods of hot and cold, but for the most part the weather is quite moderate. Due to this, I rely on a heat pump system for most of the year. I technically own what is called a hybrid heating system. This combines a ductless heat pump and a gas furnace. For most of the year the heat pump is the one working to achieve whole home temperature control. How the heat pump works is by taking existing heat energy and either pushing or pulling it into the house. It is cleaner, quieter, and better for the environment. On the very cold nights during the winter, the fuel source changes from electric to gas automatically. I don’t have to push a button. The gas furnace fires up and I feel perfectly warm. So for a vast majority of the year I am saving quite a bit of energy. I don’t have to sacrifice comfort. In South Bend you can’t really get by with just a heat pump. Having a supplemental heating source is really a wonderful addition. I love that I don’t have to freeze late at night.
